An Annual Tradition

(In-person Saturday, October 23)

Greensboro, Georgia, July 12, 2021 — The Lake Oconee Showcase of Homes is an annual tour of homes fundraiser held in the Reynolds Lake Oconee community. The event supports Greene County Habitat for Humanity in their mission to provide safe, affordable housing for Greene County, Georgia families. The Showcase is held in the fall of each year, and funds are raised through sponsorships, donations, ticket sales, and an online auction. For 2021, expect exclusive tours, an amazing video production showcasing the homes and businesses of the lake area, an incredible online auction, Habitat testimonials, and other surprises throughout the event!

The 2021 Showcase event will feature exclusive, timed entry, in-person tours on Saturday, October 23. In-person tours are being designed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, with health and safety protocols in place. Tickets to the in-person tours will go on sale on September 7. Our online broadcast returns again this year, running from October 22-24, offering audiences near and far the opportunity to explore some of Reynolds Lake Oconee’s most exquisite homes. Shane Meder Circle of Friends

The Showcase of Homes announces a special sponsorship designation created in memory of our dear friend, Shane Meder. Shane’s influence was at the foundation of the Showcase concept, and he, his husband Don Schoenberger, and the Black Sheep Interiors team have been passionate supporters of Greene County Habitat. His ease in creating magical moments for all, including our Habitat homeowners, was truly a gift. While there are many things we could say about Shane’s generosity and grace and the love and joy he bestowed on the Habitat community, most of all we say, “thank you Shane, for walking beside us to change many lives for the better. We give thanks for the blessing of being lucky enough to call you our friend.”

You may designate your sponsorship/donation to be included in the Shane Meder Circle of Friends; a percentage will be set aside each year from Circle donations for unanticipated needs of Habitat homeowners and their children.

Greene County Habitat for Humanity

Proceeds from the Showcase benefit Habitat with the goal of building homes for deserving Greene County families in need. Habitat homes are affordable to the family, they are not free. Prior to purchasing their home, each family must meet specific requirements, including participating in mentoring programs, contributing 300 hours of sweat equity, and meeting affordability requirements. The value of being a homeowner includes stable employment, healthier lifestyles, and higher academic achievements. Children raised in a Habitat home are three times more likely to attend college compared to local averages for similar demographic and economic groups.

Greene County Habitat volunteers build new homes in partnership with future homeowners. With support, resources and volunteers from the local community, we make safe, decent, and affordable housing available to low-income families. Through both monetary and in-kind donations and volunteer services, a total of 70 homes have been built or rehabbed since our inception in 1996. Greene County Habitat for Humanity is the largest non-profit residential builder in the Lake Oconee area. Greene County Habitat is a chartered affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, International.
